FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A Qualified Medical Evaluation is requested when a dispute arises in a workers' compensation case. These disputes typically are over apportionment, causation, or impairment rating. Either party can ask the State of California to provide a panelist, independent physician who evaluates the injured worker and issues a report with their findings and medical opinion.

The most common disputes are apportionment (how much of the disability is attributable to this injury versus prior conditions), causation (whether the injury is work-related), and impairment rating (the level of permanent disability).

Either attorney can request a QME. Once their request is made a panelist from the state database will be provided. In cases where attorneys are involved, typically each party strikes one doctor and the remaining doctors perform the QME. In cases where attorneys are not involved, the requesting party has the first 10 days to make the selection, if they fail, it defaults to the opposite party.

No.

Spectrum physicians are easily able to access and see outstanding reports, and their editors work closely with them to ensure they are aware of any impending deadlines. The unparalleled support provided by our team also helps the entire evaluation and report process run smoothly, helping to ensure that all reports are served as per timelines required by DWC regulations. Any requests we receive to schedule, cancel or reschedule appointments are always handled without delay by the doctors’ dedicated scheduling teams.

Spectrum offers over 500+ office locations across California, so evaluations can be scheduled close to the claimant.
