Frequently Asked Questions
An Agreed Medical Evaluation is a physician selected by agreement between the injured worker's attorney and the claims administrator to address disputed medical issues in a California workers' compensation case. Unlike a panel QME, the evaluator is chosen by the parties rather than through a randomly generated state panel.
A QME is selected from a state-regulated panel and is typically used when the injured worker is unrepresented or the parties cannot agree on an evaluator. An AME is a physician both parties mutually choose, giving each side a direct say in who addresses the disputed issues.
No. A physician does not have to hold QME or any other special certification to serve as an AME, though certified QMEs are frequently selected for the role. AME assignments reflect the parties' mutual selection of a physician to evaluate the disputed issues.
No. The evaluation provides a medical opinion on the disputed issues. It is not a treatment appointment, and no medications are involved.
Under California's medical-legal fee schedule, the applicable AME billing modifier increases the value of the core report by 35%. Our team manages the administrative side, keeping the process straightforward for both parties.
Spectrum coordinates with both parties' representatives from referral through the final report, covering scheduling, document service, deadline tracking, and multi-stage quality review. Every report is checked for compliance, completeness, and consistency.
